Calling all knitters and crocheters: Our knitters have been busy making prayer shawls, IV mitts, chemo caps, and fleece blankets. Our latest project is making hats and scarves for Worcester State University.
Check out our bulletin board for notes from grateful recipients and the website www.theshipsproject.com for pictures.
Making a prayer shawl requires knitting needles size 10 or 13. Those who crochet need the larger size hook. We have patterns and prayers to give you. One pattern which has enjoyed much attention, thanks to Bishop Weaver, is the Pocket Prayer Shawl. Please contact Judy Sandberg or Kathy Dill for further information.
The Prayer Shawl Committee is proud to announce that we are part of the recently published book, The New Prayer Shawl Companion by Janet Severi Bristow and Victoria A.Cole-Galo. Our contribution is on pages 69 and 70 and feature a Prayer Pocket and a Prayer Square which were created by our Prayer Shawl Ministry. The book us available on Amazon and in bookstores. Worcester State University is dedicated to educating all who wish to attend college despite their circumstances. Our Prayer Shawl Ministry is supporting the need for winter clothing for the homeless and low-income commuter students who attend Worcester State University in Worcester. Homeless students live on campus full time year-round.
We recently delivered 19 hand knit and crocheted winter hats, 9 scarves, 8 gloves, 2 pairs of mittens, personal care products, and towels. These students need clothing to wear to interviews for jobs. We provided a large bag of Professional Clothing for this purpose. Worcester State University staff were thrilled to receive these items as these students greatly need this support.
The Mission’s Ministry is also supporting the need for winter clothing for these students. New handmade or purchased items, and gently used items in excellent condition are also acceptable. Every piece should be clean and in a zip lock bag. Several pieces may be put into the same bag. You may leave your donation in the container at the back of the church by February 9th.
We continue to provide Prayer Shawls, fleece blankets, IV Mitts, Chemo Caps, and Prayer Squares. You are welcome to access our chest at the back of the sanctuary for items that will provide comfort for someone. Please log it into the book on the wall desk.
Thank you's: Dear Friends of the Oakdale UMC,
My wife and I would like to thank each and every one of you for the beautiful knit hats that your generous hands provided to our family. Our two new additions, our twin son Jack and our twin daughter Tess, slept like two little angels in the warmth your gift provided. We are humbled by your kindness and love. Sincerely, The Hunters (Sean, Abby, Ryan, Jack, and Tess) Dear Oakdale United Methodist Friends,
Thank YOU so much for this pattern. We are delighted to offer a meaningful project for those who are not up to making an entire shawl. You are an answer to prayer! Blessings, Rev. Janet Leighninger Christ Church Greetings, and Happy Easter!
Thank you so much for this wonderful ministry - we have already made hundreds and some have gone to Afghanistan with one of our servicemen. St. Nicholas UMC in Hull, MA |
